One of the things I LOVE about the Portland Farmer's Market is the great musical acts featured on Saturdays. This past Saturday it was three members of a band called the ___________ Orkestra. This is how the band describes itself:
The Underscore Orkestra is a Portland-based band, playing a blend of Balkan, Klezmer, Gypsy Jazz, and Swing, with a repertoire consisting of both original and traditional material from fast bulgars and melodious waltzes to odd meters and swinging rhythms. Our instrumentation includes violin, accordion, guitar, banjo, clarinet, horns, flute, harmonica, bass, vocals, and percussion. Each of the members comes from various backgrounds and musical disiplines from as far away as Russia and as close as our own Northwest. The Underscore Orkestra has been performing for the past 3 + years, touring all around the western U.S., Mexico, and Guatemala and has been seen from intimate coffee shop settings all the way to huge outdoor festivals.
And look what I found on the band's web site--a video of the band playing at the Farmer's Market last Saturday!!!
Here's another one, also at the Farmer's Market:
Nicholas, Kieran, and I were sitting in the front row! Can you single out our applause at the end? :)
