The New York Times covered the horrific gang rape of an 11-year-old girl by 18 men by blaming her (for dressing older than she was) and blaming her mother (for allowing her to wander in the area in which she was attacked). Then it quoted members of the community who were distressed about how it would ruin the lives of the perpetrators.
The Houston Chronicle, CNN, and and NBC have all contributed to the myth that the 11-year-old girl (who one of the defense attorneys claims was a "very willing participant" [IN GANG RAPE???!!!]) was asking for it, and her attackers are being unfairly treated (and poor things--they lost a basketball game because some of their stars were arrested).
If this appalls you as much as it does me, consider signing the online petition demanding that the New York Times apologize for the way it covered this case.
