Malti, Malti, Now It's Summer

This is Nicholas' current favorite song, by our family favorite Dan Zanes & Friends. He likes several DZ songs (including "Water for the Elephants" and my favorite, "Wonder Wheel"), but this is his favorite and the one that gets played over and over again. You can watch a great video of the song on the DZ web site here.

We thought summer had arrived in Portland, but yesterday we had a massive thunderstorm (exciting in itself, because lightning struck a tree down the street and it was on fire for quite awhile, and when I returned home from work, the kids were all terrified because Mike had told them they couldn't use the TV or computer...storms bring out the dramatic in him!). Today it is cloudy and rainy. Tomorrow is the rose parade, and we are desperately hoping for at least no rain. The last time we went to the parade 2 years ago, it rained buckets and we were cold and miserable. So if it rains tomorrow, no parade for us.

In that spirit and in the hopes of summer weather, I give you "Malti" (English lyrics below):

Malti (by Barbara Brousal)

malti, malti ya es verano¿
por qué no levantamos temprano?
nunca repetimos hoy
lleno del sol y viento soy
nunca repetimos hoy
lleno del sol y viento soy

baila, baila en las olas
nadaremos en las olas
nunca repetimos hoy
lleno del sol y viento soy
nunca repetimos hoy
lleno del sol y viento soy

ay di di lai di di lai di di leio
ay di di lai di di lai di di leio

en un barco sobre el mar
malti, vamos a navegar
nunca repetimos hoy
lleno del sol y viento

soy nunca repetimos hoy
lleno del sol y viento soy
ay di di lai di di lai di di leio

ay di di lai di di lai di di leio

English Translation

malti, malti now it's summer
why don't we get up early?
we'll never have another day like this
full of sun and wind

dance, dance in the waves
let's swim in the waves
we'll never have this exact day again
full of sun and wind
in a boat on the sea

malti, we'll go sailing
we'll never have this exact day again
full of sun and wind
