My Little Irish/Austrian Boy!

My little Irish gentleman was very excited for St. Patrick's Day to arrive. A few weeks ago I took him on a rare outing to the Dollar Tree so he could spend his $5 in saved allowance money. Among other things, he bought a cheap St. Paddy's necklace (basically green Mardi Gras beads with a plastic, blinking shamrock pendant) and headpiece thingy with shamrocks. Both essentially fell apart within a week.

Kieran's wonderful kindergarten teacher had them making leprechaun traps (apparently all the rage in school now), which they left out overnight. This morning they were filled with confetti and Shamrock stickers (from the leprechauns).

In previous years, the leprechauns also turned the water in the toilet green, and Kieran could not wait to see this when he arrived at school. Alas, they failed in their duties. He was VERY upset about this.

Mrs. Lang told Mike privately that last year, one child was so traumatized by the leprechaun-tampered toilets that he didn't want to return to school the next day. So no green water.

I snuck in the house tonight and dropped some food coloring in the toilet...and called Kieran into the bathroom to show him. Pure delight!!

The second surprise I had for him was that the lederhosen I had ordered for him from eBay (for his "Sound of Music" birthday party) had arrived! Fortunately, they fit...doesn't he look adorable?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if, as we grew older, all it took to make us happy were green toilet water and lederhosen? Wouldn't it be a better world?

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
